Q: I have about $50,000.00 US which I am looking to use to purchase 3-4 US stocks in a non-registered (taxable)account. I am happy to hold long term. Am thinking of purchasing either Disney or Time Warner and one or two others. Can you recommend a couple of additional US larger caps? We do have AIG/Halliburton/GE in our rrsp. Thanks for the terrific service. Bill Y.

Q: ENTREC Corporation (ENT).
When I saw the results just released I was disappointed particularly with the comment that “higher revenue in the first quarter this year was offset by a lower adjusted EBITDA margin of 17.3%, compared to 26.0% in Q1 last year.” and "In the short term, we expect the reduced activity levels to continue into the second quarter of 2014 and that our equipment utilization levels will remain lower than last year.”
However the market appears to like the results and shares are up today.
Would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks
John

Q: ASG - Aurora Spine
I have a small potion in ASG and continue watching while the company gets it "ducks in a row."
May 9 announced the appointment of Doug Johnson as Regional Vice President of Sales for the Eastern United States. Mr. Johnson has served in management roles for various spine and orthopedic companies such as TranS1, Pioneer Surgical Technology and SomnoMed Inc. and has over 15 years of sales experience. Appears this was a good hire and another step towards generating increased sales and exposure.
Mid April saw share prices rise to $4.91 and have since dropped back down to $3.50 - close to it's lowest this year.
I expected this would be a long road for Aurora - especially considering the sector. Is there any other news you have heard? Would you buy at these low levels?
Thanks for all you do
Gord

Q: AYA has been soft the last few days. They announced that they are reporting Q1 on May 15. If you look at the chart for the week before Q4/FYE was recently announced, in hindsight, it appears that a "few" people knew the quarter was going to be soft. Would your long-term thesis change if AYA missed analyst expectations this quarter and do you think (without having a crystal ball) that based on the price action, although on low volume, investors are anticipating a repeat? What are your thoughts on the weakness?
Q: I hope this double dividend question qualifies as minimal. When could we expect a dividend increase from tcn. I have held for a year and a half and would have thought we would have had an increase by now. When do you think aya might introduce a dividend. Mike
Q: Mr. Hodson, Amaya (AYA) is indeed proving it is a volatile stock. What do you expect for 2014 First Quarter Earnings on May 15 ?

Q: How do you view the recent results of McCoy (MCB)? I had asked a previous question on them and you suggested that investors may be waiting for the next results. Think these results will tweak some interest?
Thanks.

Q: Hi,
I'm a long term investor. Why did you choose Enbridge for your model portfolio over TransCanada or IPL? Would this be a good time to add it to my portfolio or do you see further weakness in summer?
I'm also looking for an oil/ gas stock as a long term hold, preferably with dividend. What do you think of High Arctic Energy or do you have a better idea?

Q: CTA (Crocotta Energy). I thought their quarterly results released this morning were excellent with EPS double estimates (per Globe and mail online), yet the stock is selling off, am I missing something?
Q: At the May 8 AGM, Automodular (AM) shareholders voted a reduction of the stated capital of its common shares of $19.4M (coincidentally (?), exactly $1 per common share outstanding). What are or might be the implications?
Q: BK and DFN both pays around 10% dividends. Are they safe to buy for income? Also is HFR a good place to park cash and does it fluctuate much with interest rates? Thank you very much for your opinion.
Q: Spirits! I wonder if you would be kind enough to provide some updated thoughts on a couple of my favorite stocks and brands, Andrew Peller and Corby Spirit and Wine, Symbols ADW.A & CSW.A - thanks as always

Q: Hi Peter, Can you explain the difference averaging down vs. averaging in? For explain I bought 500 shares of AVO at $27 a few weeks ago and I bought 250 more shares at $21 on the initial dip. Was this a bad strategy?
Averaging down didn't work out too well for investors in Nortel or Blackberry.
