Q: Good day Peter....This is an amendment/update to my earlier e-mail question about rebalancing a RRSP portfolio. In the e-mail I mentioned "income with steady growth, and on further thought, what I really would like/am aiming for is steady growth. For me,the income/dividends is/are really a fall out/come along with the stocks. (This especially true for the pipelines over the last five years. But it is getting through to me/sinking in from reading your posts and responses that a balanced portfolio is a better practice than just pipelines, financials and REITS.) In a way, for a non-registered account, I would prefer growth companies but for a RRSP, I'm inclined to me more conservative and by that I label it as steady growth. Thanks for provoking thinking for all this........Tom M

Q: Hello Peter...This is about an RRSP account that is overweight in financials, pipelines and REITS, with some consumer discretionary. But there are no health care, info tech, and consumer staples. And I read in an earlier post about taking positions in staples which got me thinking about rebalancing to add staples. (For example, is THI considered consumer staples?) Your suggested names/ticker symbols for these 3 sectors are most welcomed for a RRSP that is five years away from being converted to a RRIF that will continue to provide "income and steady growth".
Thanks....Tom M

Q: Peter, I have a niece that I'm gifting 30K to. She's like to put this money into a TFSA as she currently doesn't have a TFSA account. I was going to advise her to pick 6 equities from your model portfolio in different sectors. Would you agree with this strategy and if not what would your recommendations be?
Q: Not a question, but a comment.
As a member who rarely posts questions I am annoyed with individuals who list their holdings and ask for a portfolio review. The latest being Karen who posted today, listing 38 holdings and asked for a detailed review.
My issues are 1) We are members not clients; and 2) Your site is clear on the scope and nature of the information provided.
I think your response on these questions should be that it is outside of the scope of 5i's service and they should consult a financial advisor.
If individuals want to be treated as clients then spend the money on a financial advisor rather than expecting the 5i members to subsidize their needs.

Q: I would appreciate your valued opinion on Akita Drilling AKA.A and how it compares with its peers. Many thanks.
Q: PEIX
PEIX reported block buster result because of high ethanol prices and low corn prices. Q1 should be even much better as the price advantage is higher. It seem that a few years ago they were a speculative company. It went up 20% after hours, and has risen more than 150% since December.
What is their cash and debt position?
Do you see them as a good investment at current level?

Q: Hello 5i:
PHX ( PHX Energy Services) just released it's record financial and operating results for 2013. Before I jump into this stock, I would like your opinion on this company and the future risks in this sector.

Q: Can you comment on the continued weak price of PRE? It had a recent oil discovery. Is there something other than geopolitical risk that I might be missing? Perhaps a big player is selling and hopefully done soon?
Q: I see a lot of cost cutting measures in order to increase earnings. Does it point to an advanced stage in the economic cycle ?

Q: As a long sufferer holder of Canadian Lithium, now RB Energy (RBI), I wonder if today's jump was just short covering or there was some new development? Thanks, Peter
