Q: I am new to this investing game, so have a ways to go to get an understanding of important details.
I notice that on my QTrade profile sheet for this ETF the yield is 7.6% but the Jan 23/15monthly distribution was only $.074. This monthly amount X 12 months = $.89 which is about a 3.3% yield on a $27.00 ETF. Can you explain the discrepency?
Can the dividends be automatically reinvested?
Thankyou for your answers....Jim

Q: What are your current thoughts on this company ?

Q: Hello,
Can you please comment on Reitmans. Is there really a turnaround story there ? I have been holding for 1 year now with about 25% gain. Since they cut the dividend I don't really see a reason to hold on to it. Not to mention the retail space doesn't appear to be very exciting at the moment. Thank you for your comments.

Q: As a follow up question, the bonds etfs I meant to list before autocorrect are xhy, cvd, cpd, cbo, xbb,Flot. I plan to hold 2% weight in portfolio of each, does this make sense (any overlap?) or can I cut any? Also, you mentioned taking 10% from canadian equity and switching to international, can you list your top 2 or 3 international equity etfs that you prefer? Thanks again, sorry for confusion on bond etfs

Q: Hi Peter & Team,

I'm a little concerned about the debt load of Chesswood plus its small cap. I'm considering selling my position and taking on Canaccord instead, which is not without its own risks but it looks cheap at the current value. Could I please have your opinion on this swap?

Thx
Dave

Q: Good Morning Peter,

When the Bank of Canada cut it's interest rate by a quarter point last week and a good posibility of another cut coming soon, will this change your thought on holding SLF. I thought that the one reason to hold this stock was because interest rates were going to go up a bit this year. It now seems interest rates are not going to raise for a long time now in Canada nor in the U.S. as the strong dollar is causing problems for the U.S. as well and if they raise interest rates it will cause the U.S. dollar to go even higher.

So I would appreciate your thoughts on sunlife these days.

Thanks Charlie

Q: You lean towards HLF more than CLR but I think both have slightly different businesses in the same industry. Would you own 2.5% position in both as CLR looks like it is breaking through while HLF is languishing or it would be good to hold just one of them and if so which one.

Q: Hi 5i,

Do you know of any companies or ETFs which invest in national or (preferably) global infrastructure -- roads, airports, electricity and water networks, etc.? I'm already aware of Brookfield (BEP,BIP,BPY) and would like to know if there any other companies/ETFs which you think merit consideration in this sector. Thanks for your excellent service.

Q: The following is a comment you made earlier. I am wondering if this pertains to the stock ET or the etf.
Any way, I am also interested in acquiring ET, and if this is the case, what would you consider an appropriate stink bid, and should this be put in place thanks
Thanks for your usual good service

"However, sometimes the price will go down during the day, and not all ETF managers utilize market at close trading. Thus, putting in a stink bid on a stock can sometimes get you a good fill. We always find this trading interesting, because it is a time when fundamentals do not matter. Index players simply trade because of the index, meaning good companies can trade more cheaply on occasion without any change in their prospects. "

Q: Since mid 2013 SLW has bounced several times between $20 and $30. I bought it at $20 with the intention of selling at $30, and held on only to land back down at $20. It is approaching $30 again, and I am yet again hesitating over the sell button (not a trader!). Do you see anything different in the stock that might push it up over $30 this time?

Q: Hi Team,
I was considering buying this ETF for yield and relative safety for the next couple of years. Can you share your thoughts. I am assuming that it has declined because the recent BOC rate cut?

Thanks as always for your reply.

Q: I am looking to enter the US technology space with names like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Intel, Oracle and Cisco. Are present valuations attractive and in what order would you rate them or is XLK a preferable alternative?
In Canada, PHM has had significant volume recently - how does its valuation look now?
Thanks.

Q: For Kelly looking for a US$ Investment Savings Account, this one pays about 0.25%.

Q: In reply to Kelly, we receive US Social Security and have it sent to our BMO US dollar account. No problem. Then we simply transfer it to pay our US credit cards, or into Canadian funds for use here as required.
