Q: I was trying to search for your views on setting stop losses. As markets and portfolios expand there's increasing concern about significant losses in a sustained downturn. If I'm reading you right, your strategy would be to ensure a balanced portfolio and perhaps lean towards dividend stocks to counteract a dropping market. Do you see any place for setting stop losses? If so, what would be your guidelines. Thanks Graham

Q: have you read the amaya story on LES AFFAIRES (5 juillet issue)They seem to think that there is a lot of risks. is it better to sale now.
thank you.
thank you.
Q: I originally bought PPY under $2, so am obviously pleased that it closed at an all-time high of $14.17 yesterday. But it has been a volatile ride! Since they are surrounded by PETRONAS, and do drill some wells with them, do you think it is inevitable that PPY gets bought out by PETRONAS? Underpinning PPY's share price is their huge reserves and pristine balance sheet. I should take some profits, but the story is the best in the natural gas space right now, IMO. Thoughts?

Q: Hi Peter & team, someone told me that his "Financial advisor" told him that TFSA (tax free saving accounts) would probably be eliminated by the Government. Reason being that its mean objective of encouraging people to save has not been accomplished. What do you think of this? Thanks, Gervais
Q: could we get an update of your view of PRU , SGR, and LSG. Thanx Robbie

Q: What are your thoughts on Twin Butte's (TBE) announcement of a private placement? Tossing another 1.8 million shares in the mix is somewhat dilutive, yet the stock got a little bounce on the news.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Q: As for DH and the TD numbers: the lower number is "*GAAP = prior to non-GAAP analyst adjusted earnings" and the higher number is "*Non-GAAP = analyst adjusted earnings and revenues". GAAP= Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
It seems to me the difference for most companies is not so vast. It might be interesting for an accountant to analyze why this is so for DH in particular.

Q: Could you please provide your current thoughts on Dragonwave (DWI), it looks to be making gains this week. Also any thoughts on its 1st quarter report next week?

Q: Hi 5i,
My question is on the reliability of forward earnings. From your comments I gather that you often look at forward earnings when evaluating stocks. My question is how reliable are they in general? Do companies tend to be honest with their guidance or more conservative or do they tend to miss the mark. It's nice to see the forward earnings and forward P/E, but only if you think they are good indicators? yeah?
Thanks! Your service is terrific.

Hi Peter :
Having just read your answer to Doreen July 02 regarding Element Financial EFN you said : "The stock is expensive, but we expect very rapid growth, and would put the management team in our list of Top Ten companies."
So I cannot but ask if you could please list your "Top Ten" Management teams.
Also I, like many others, are eagerly awaiting your Growth Portfolio and maybe trying to anticipate your choices.... any chance at a sneak peek at the list, or some suggestions? Maybe some your Top Ten Management companies will be in the Growth Portfolio.
Always appreciative of your excellent advice.... Paul K.

Q: When speaking about stocks, the terms "buy hold and sell" are commonly used. I think I understand "buy" and "sell" as they seem quite precise but am confused by the term "hold". If a stock is good enough to "hold" in a portfolio why would it not be good enough to "buy"? So. when you or others in the industry use that term, what exactly do you mean?
Thanks for the education and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope that the car looks worse than Peter, though.!

Q: Acknowledging my high risk tolerance, I have 90% equities and 10% in Vanguard Canadian Short-Term Corporate Bond Index ETF (VSC) , the 10% portion is what I consider my "safety" and like the dividend payout which I reinvest in equities as it accumaltes.
I'd appreciate your current thoughts on VSC and my stratagy overall, is there a better "safety" play for me?

Q: Hi Peter,
I need US income in the future so i am trying to establish a position but do not follow the US stocks well enough to pick 'a few'. In addition, the US yields are below the Canadian counterparts. Can you recommend a couple of well diversified US ETFs that would generate US income. I pay taxes in the US and Canada so tax considerations are not a big factor for me.
