Q: Hi Peter. Is it time to give up on AVO? Do you know if there is any news coming? I'm not sure if it is a bye sell or hold. I'm cautiously optimistic. Thank you. Betty
Q: Hello Peter....Sector classification question for 2 companies. Is it better to classify Black Diamond as Consumer Discretionary than Energy? And for AutoCanada can it be considered as Retail rather than classified as Consumer Discretionary?...Thanks...Tom M
Q: Hi Peter:
I am retired with a modest pension, and a huge believer in asset allocation focused on Cdn dividend income. I have recently trimmed several positions to raise a bit of cash (now at 7%) to take advantage of a possible summer pullback. In equities I own AD, AQN, ALA, BCE, BNS, BTE, BA, CFN, CGX, CSU, CPG, III, PBH, TCN, WEQ, as well as 2 dividend funds and 1 REIT fund.
Do you see any red flags? Caution flags for me are CFN and WEQ. Once purchased, I normally like to give the stock "time to perform".
Q: Good morning Peter and team,
Question is on Alarmforce (AF). Announced a special dividend this morning. Would you be buying on this news since the share price is pretty much flat since the announcement? And has the Matlin affair been resolved? Thank you.
I established a healthy position in Brookfield Renewable several months ago based in part on the "A" rating by 5i. Would love to hear your comments on their recent acquisition of wind power assets in Ireland once you've had time to assess the deal.
Q: Why does BDI remind you a little bit of Badger? I thought one of Badger's strengths was its propritary technology which I don't believe BDI has. If memory serves me correctly once you said that Badger's clients were utilities who weren't so much concerned about costs as reliability and response time. Does this hold true for BDI and are they as good as Badger? (Are their clients utilities too?)
Thanks
Q: K-Bro (KBL) reports about May 5th and I have $0.33 in earnings estimates from 3 analysts, down from $0.39 last year, revenue flat. However TD Securities seems to think Free Cash Flow is a more important indicator and has it going from $2.61 in 2013 to $3.51 in 2015 with potential for a dividend increase. Their analysts toured the new facility in Edmonton and were most impressed so raised their target on the stock at the same time calling it a "Breakout Milestone". I see it is a small cap and wonder who the major stockholders are, should there be a takeover, and do you agree with the numbers? I am a content holder from a lot lower and have averaged up since. Also is there an updated 5i report coming? I see the last one was Dec. 2012. Thanks, J.

Q: I noticed a few questions on why BPF.UN, Boston Pizza, has been weak. I would suggest that the increasing Payout Ratio is not a good sign, especially considering they have been borrowing money to buy back units in an effort to keep the POR down. That debt has to be paid back one day, which will cut into profits at that time, and possibly lead to a distribution cut. I know that is in the future, but that day will come. And won't the low Canadian dollar and drought in California lead to higher input costs for the short-medium term?
Q: Hi 5i,
Would you still give CFN (Carfinco) the same rating if you were to review it today. I am invested in it but wondering if other stocks in the same sector would be better choices right now since it might take some time for it (cfn) to recover? Thanks a lot,
Keith
Q: 5i has become invaluable to myself and many others but another tool that I use each and every day is globeinvestor.com's Watchlist. Recently I was ranking my portfolio by various headings in their Build Your Own dropdown box. One heading was Forward PE, in which I noticed that BEP.UN is 83.46. Knowing that different services have different numbers I thought I would run this past 5i - it doesn't seem right. Views?
Also is it possible that even after their huge runs upward, CSU could have a forward PE of 12.98 and HLF similar at 11.07 i.e they're both still cheap?
