Q: Hi,

I'm looking to buy an S&P 500 ETF in Canadian dollars traded on the TSX.

What's your suggested ETF and which account should I hold it in?

I bank at BMOInvestorline if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Robert

5i Research Answer:

VFV holds exposure to S&P500 through VOO, a US-listed ETF. ZSP holds direct exposure. In an RRSP, it is beneficial, in terms of tax withholding, to hold a US-listed US equity ETF, which neither of these are. For that, we would look at SPY. Otherwise, we are indifferent between ZSP and VFV.
