Q: Hello, I hold smaller positions in GUD and E as a portion of an overall well balanced portfoio. Do you see any problems with either, they seem to be going down or sideways for some time.
Reasons, or just overall summer doldrums? Thanks, Lavern
p.s. Hope you are fully recovered for your quickly approaching ride. Best of Luck!

Q: Hi,

Do you like any of Difference Capital, RB Energy or New Millenium Iron, and if you had to choose one would you have a pereference?

Also you you look at purchases by insiders under a plan the same as purchases in the open market?

Thanks,

Q: Hi 5i team,

I am working on getting a more diversified portfolio in my non-registered accounts when I add new money. According to RBC Direct Investing I have 0% utilities, 0% industrials, and 45.1% in energy.

It seems that you consider ENB, IPL, and PPL as utilities. Is that correct? If that is the case then utilities make up 22.9% of my portfolio, and energy is 22.2%. Still too high I suppose.

I would like to add some dividend paying industrial stocks that would make up around 5% of my portfolio. What industrial stocks do you recommend at this time? [I guess STN and BAD] Is there a seasonally good time to buy industrial stocks? I can wait if there is.

Note: If I recall you classify BAD as an industrial stock, yet TMX lists it in the energy sector. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out sector allocation when some stocks get classified differently depending on the site you use.

Q: What is the advantage of in kind transfers from a non registered account to a TFSA if one is charged capital gains anyway, and can't claim capital loss--which presumably you COULD claim if you sold the stock and transferred the $? Is it that the transfer is done without a transaction fee?

Q: re: FUNC First United Corp

this is a small bank that was recommended on Market Call. Pre 2008 it was as high as $23.41. It is now @ $8.75.

I realize it is U$ based... keeping that in mind do you have any observations you could share?

Thanks for all you do

Q: From Accesswire (June 19): "Isis Lab (LAB-TSX.V) has created a gamblification engine that turns on-line games into real money, while creating a sticky user social experience. For clients operating within fully regulated markets the company offers a turnkey solution including a full commerce application and back office suite."

Turning fantasy gaming into real money sounds quite promising (I'm not sure how that's possible!) but I can't imagine what a sticky user experience would entail. Any idea?
Two of the execs at LAB honed their skills at Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker and the report at Accesswire links LAB with Amaya. It seems LAB moved up in sympathy with developments at Amaya in mid June from the 35 cent area but has since fallen back.
Has 5i altered the opinion on LAB since last look in Feb. and is there possibly an undiscovered gem of a stock here? Thanks, J.

Q: Seems we're into a summer pullback in the Canadian market. I've noted some of the companies in your model portfolios have pulled back with the market. Which companies in your model portfolios do you currently believe are the least expensive and provide the greatest upside for the next 1-2 years? As, always, thanks for your valued guidance.

Q: Peter: I have been looking at Sylogist, SYZ for the past few days as it reaches new highs. I'm puzzled by the reporting of volume. For example, today, the official count is 2615 but a look at trades on TMX.com shows many thousands more. Why the difference especially on what appears to be quite an illiquid stock, especially if you want to trade. Thank you and kind regards,
