Q: My portfolio is lacking in life insurers (heavily weighted in energy, tech, mining). How does Manulife compare to Sunlife and Great West Life as an initial exposure to life insurance companies in Canada? It was beaten down so severely over comparatively speaking during the last financial crisis. I wonder if there's more upside with Manulife than the other 2.

Q: Hello Team
I see that MFC has 1.9 B shares outstanding versus SLF's 612 M. I bought MFC before I saw your report on SLF. Given the similarities between the two companies, is the large number of MFC shares anything to be concerned about. I see the charts of both companies are moving along pretty well in sync.
Thank you for your efforts and great advice.

Q: I purchased MFC at 14.75 and it's now at 20.40 an increase of 38%. I have now read your article on how interest rates would affect MFC vs. SLF. Is it wise to switch to Sunlife @ 40.00? My theory is that the cheaper stock will have more room to run and that rates will not rise significantly for at least a year.
Thanks for all your advice
Thanks for all your advice
Q: Do you think owning insurance equities is a good "portfolio hedge" against rising interest rates?
I know you like Sun Life (SLF) but I am wondering if it is also the best choice relative to other Canadian insurers in terms of it's potential upside due strictly to an orderly rise in rates?

Q: MFC - Will the financing of Manulife's recent acquisition dilute the stock and hence reduce the price? Thanks. Michael
Q: Your out look for MFC compared to SLF taking into consideration MFC latest acquisition. Thanks.
Q: Good Day. Please provide your views regarding MLF 's acquisition of the Canadian operations of Standard Life with particular emphasis relative to synergies, disclosed financing plan, future dividend policy and impact on growth and outlook for MLF? CEO says Three cents/year for next three years. At 12x EPS, it seems like its possible impact on the stock price could be negligible. Thanks.
Q: Manulife and Sun Life. Are these good holds seeing that so many weather and other problems are occurring? Thanks James
Q: Hi Peter and Ryan, could you please provide any insight into Manulife U.S. Regional Bank Trust. Fees etc, would it potentially be a good investment.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
Q: re: GWO & MFC
Saw your comments today on Great West... are those comments applicable to Manufacturers as well? Or is there anything I should be aware of re MFC specifically? I'm down 6% on a 6% weighted position.
Thanks for all you do

Q: Do you think MFC might shortly play 'catch-up' with their dividend? They did cut it massively a while back. Currently EPS is $1.62 while the Dividend is $0.52 {Globe & Mail, on line}. That is a payout ratio of only 32%.

Q: Hello Peter and Team. Within my RIFF, I own MFC (5.84% of my RIFF) and I bought it many years ago? for $28.23. It is now around $20.79 or so. I also own TCK.B (6.94%) and I paid $32.48 many years ago but is now about $24.72 They both, as you can see are always in the red and have a very long way to go to catch up again. My PF is well balanced with your help but in this predicament, what would you suggest? As always thank you ahead of time.
Q: I own Manulife (MFC) at an ACB of $17.86 in a registered account as part of a balanced portfolio. Would you sell it and buy Sunlife (SLF)?
Q: Is Manual life and Baytex are good buys?
Q: Hi Team,
I have 2 Manulife Prefers.
1/MFC.PR.G 4.4% price @ $25.70
2/MFC.PR.C 4.5% price @ $21.55
Please explain why their prices are so much apart. Since they are issued by the same company. Thank you for your help!

Q: Hello.for my RESP (3-4 year hold) - I am holding Manulife. Shall I continue to hold ( and add more money) or you prefer Sunlife. Also, between TRP and ENB, you prefer any one. This would be for safety and growth. Thanks
Q: Can you give me your opinion on manulife. Do you think this is a good time to buy? Thanks
Q: Good morning. I am thinking of adding to my financial holdings and have read your recent comments on BNS, TD, FSZ, SLF, GWO, and MFC all of which I hold for a 10% financial weighting. I'm thinking of adding to MFC to bring it's weighting up to SLF and GWO and total of 12% for the group. MFC is improving and 5i seems to be warming up to it. I think MFC may be getting close to rebuilding it's dividend as well.
I would appreciate your opinion on this purchase as well as the weightings overall.
Once again, many thanks for your input.
