Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: This is more a general question that a company specific one. Tax loss selling has been mentioned a lot recently and while I know what it is,I don't know how (if?) I can it to my advantage, as I have only had registered money up until now.

From the conversations, it would appear that we should expect a lot of selling around stocks that have fallen quite a bit - AVO, BDI, BAD to name a few. I am down on these stocks too but I am committed to hanging on for several months yet. But is there a value in selling them to realize a loss and buy them back in 31 days as there is little likelihood they will rise in that short time or is that too much like gambling on market timing?

Also, it seems that this activity occurs in the late fall. Why? You can claim the loss at any point in the year so why does it seem to concentrate then?

Finally, if all this selling is expected to occur, is there a way to take advantage of it?

Thanks for the education. If this is not the correct forum to answer this, perhaps you could direct me to where I could learn about this "phenomenon'.

Q: Hi guys, just like to hear your analysis of ADW.A and if you could speak to the risks associated with some of the dependence the company has on LCBO / Gov't of Ontario support through policies. I am looking at the non-voting shares as a portfolio diversifier. Thanks, Mike.

Q: Could you please give me an updated opinion on ESRX? Could you also recommend 2-3 large cap US stocks for long term holding, likely to provide some growth and some dividend payment (my US holdings are ESRX, MMM, HCLP, JNJ, NVS and IWO)? Thank you for your excellent advice and congratulation on your charitable work.

Q: I would be interested in your opinion about Vectorvest methodology and the opinion of any members that follows them. I have twice tried their methodology unsuccessfully. But with their claim of huge returns I am wondering if it was the way I applied their methodology or the short time I used them, that was the cause of my failure.

Thanks

Q: GE seems to be divesting its low margin businesses and becoming more of an industrial company again. I would expect a smaller and more profitable GE going forward. It's PE is below the general market and pays a good dividend. Is this a pound the table buy considering its fundatmentals and growth profile?

Q: Hello Peter, I have new cash in my already-diversified RRSP. I have a moderate risk tolerance and am seeking long-term growth in plan value (whether the growth is from dividends or gains.) I currently have half positions in BIP.UN, BPY.US, CVE, CCO, CJR.B, ECA, POT and WIN. Can you please suggest which two or three of these to 'top up'. And if you would suggest jettisoning any of these completely, please share your thoughts.

Q: Hi in my TFSA I have 2 small cap investments PLS and LOY whose value has dropped more than I anticipated recently. I understand there is a possibility of a strike on the west coast which could affect the value of PLS but do not know of any other reasons for the drop in value except for the affect of the overall correction in the marketplace. Is there anything I am missing?
Thanks for your help
