I understand you generally don't like buying in a downward trend but do you think it is worth considering ?

GT stock had dropped by about 1/3 year to day while its competitor CTB's stock is up10% ytd and that was before Trump's call to Americans to stop buying GT products. Your thoughts please on reasons for GT's pullback and your comments going forward for this stock. Would GT would be a buy, hold or sell.

Q: I've dug back in your past Q&A on this stock. I see you mention that this company has a high debt load. From what I gather, debt : capital is in the 55% range if I'm reading the figures correctly. Do you consider this high / worrisome? Is there a different metric you use that raises a concern.
I know this is a cyclical stock and am not planning to buy today, but want to put this info in my back pocket for a future purchase if the company is on solid ground.

For what it's worth, I agree with Kyle's comment yesterday about "Free Markets" (or lack thereof). With markets close to record highs and low interest rates robbing retirees of income from interest-bearing investments, do Central Banks feel they have an obligation to continually goose the market, or at least put a floor under it? Debt just keeps climbing at all levels. Will be interesting (scary?) when the music stops.

Q: Hi,

I want to make a longterm buy in tire stock because I think tires will continue to be needed no matter type of car gas or electric. I was considering cooper or goodyear. Which of these look like they are good value builder for a longterm hold. Or can you suggest some other stock along these lines. Thanks.

Q: I know that while you don't generally cover US stocks I thought you might have a comment on the following as it pertains to dividends and dividend payers. You noted in one of your blogs that companies that start paying dividends should be watched because they often exhibit greater growth. Goodyear Tire (GT) stopped paying a dividend many years ago and after much restructuring, have just re-started their dividend. The stock has increased quite dramatically over the year (even thought the dividend was only payable this month)so I am wondering if the new dividend has already been priced into the stock and if a company that re-starts a dividend is any different than one that initiates one for the first time.
