Q: I own these stocks which have unrealized losses at the moment and would like to crysalize the losses to offset against other gains, since they have all been beat up due to their indirect or direct exposure to the oil industry , I would like to replace them with something similar in their respective areas to capitalize on longer term potential. Would you be kind enough to recommend suitable replacements.

Q: HCG is down more than 13% the last 5 days. The current price is well below the 200 day moving average. Over the last 5 days it is my biggest loser. Can you provide any insight for the decline and would you suggest adding to my position at these levels. Thank you

Q: Hello Peter and Team
In an earlier question about tax loss selling you have indicated that XEG and ZEO (BMO's oil and gas ETF) could be deemed identical by CRA and the tax loss could be disallowed. I am wondering whether all oil stocks are considered identical for tax loss selling. E.g I sold WCP yesterday at a loss and I am planning to buy VET tomorrow. Can I claim the capital loss on the sale of WCP??
Thanks again for your excellent service.

Q: Hi, PKI down ~7%.....no news I can find. Do you know why?
Thx

Q: IPL down quite a bit today. Is there news or is it oil price related? what is the relationship between pipelines and oil price? I would have thought that pipelines make money moving oil and if the price of oil is down, then wouldn't more oil (or at least the same amount) of oil move? Or is the fear that some projects have/will be cancelled because of the low oil prices?
Hoping your can clear this up for me (and likely others). Thanks.
Paul F.

Q: At $22.00 is CPG not a screaming buy - even at $60 a barrel?
Also do you have any information on insider trading for this company and where can I get this information without bothering you?
Many thanks
John

Q: Peter would you give is your thoughts on ALA?
Q: Hi,
Teck has taken a large hit recently. What is your view on buying some now for the medium term (say 2-3 years) and how safe is the dividend in the next 12 months.

Hello Peter
I am looking for safety of dividends and dividend growth, with some share price growth too, and can add about 1% to an existing position.
I am considering adding to one of :
Chartwell CSH.UN - I have a 0.1% starter position..... yield 4.6%.
Emera EMA - I have a 2.0% position........ yield 4.04%.
Enbridge ENB - I have a 2.4% position............yield about 3.07 after latest increase.
Enbridge Income Fund ENF - I have a 5% position............... yield 4.48%.
Which has the least liklihood of a dividend cut, and which would you pick, and why would you choose the one you do.
Thank You ....... Paul K

Q: I note that AHF have $7.1B in AUM while Gluskin Sheff have $8.1B (only $1B more) but GS trades at ~$28 while AHF is only ~$0.88. It seems to me that some wealth management firm could pick up an easy $7B in AUM for a cheap price buy buying AHF.
(1) Why the discrepancy ?
(2)Is there a metric such as AUM per share that applies to Wealth Management companies to determine their value?

Q: It's been almost a year since cfx has been mentioned, how does 5I assess it now.
Q: Which stock would you recommend Huskey or Suncor. Huskeys dividend is better would you consider both companies equally secure.
Q: Good morning,
My two largest positions in the energy sector are equally in Whitecap and Surge. In order to bring my total exposure level down to about 12% ( my present level is 15%) I need to lighten up on one. As I like both companies which one would you suggest?
Thanks Peter

Q: Hello Peter,
I am thinking of selling half of my googl shares to buy sandvine or keep the googl, but sell half of dhx media to buy sandvine. DHX has done well for me ,but googl has been flat. I know it is not an apple to apple comparison, but am looking to switch rather than add new money to buy sandvine. Any comments? Thanks again.

Q: If your belief is that from the bottom of this oil rout some oil equities will double in 24 months time from now, what would be the global names, not just canadian names, you might suggest? Or do you think it's better to buy a global diversified ETF of medium to large cap oil producers? Thank you for your time.
Q: There has been increased trading volume and stock price over the last week. I cannot find any news to explain this, am I missing something? A compensation repayment for cancelled lease by the Alberta government is pending and has been for quite some time. I have been holding on to the stock for a few years. Would you continue to hold or sell?
Q: I know you consider insider buying and selling in your analysis (e.g. SGY). In the last month or so have there been any significant insider buys or sells in the stocks you follow in the growth or income portfolios?
Q: I have been watching SYD and after the recent 25%+ decline I am interesting in buying small position. What do you think of the company/sector? I also have heard about PUR, would you buy that instead?
Thank you.
Thank you.
