Q: GWR - Would you have any further information on GWR than a year ago? It is thinly traded but there seems to be some demand/interest lately. I own a small amount and would like your opinion as to holding on to see how this plays out as their year end nears. I concur and join with the many accolades sent to you.
Many Thanks, Gayle

Q: The uranium sector seems to be moving up a bit and I would like to start accumulating in the sector. Everyone agrees we are going into a mining supply issue and with the Russian weapons supply having stopped I don't see how the price can not go up. What would be your suggestions in the sector.
Would be nice if members could search questions by a key word (like uranium).
Hope you had a good holiday and Thanks for the wonderful service you provide.

Q: PLUG has met their 4th quarer targets and the stock is spiking in early hours.
According to the CEO the first quarter 2014 should also be a good one. Once again they seem to be on a good growth curve with top notch customers. BLD is one of their suppliers.
Could be a very good year for both companies.
Do you agree.
Good Luck for The New Year

Q: Best wishes for 2014. And thank you, once again, for freeing us all from brokers.
Could you please compare and contrast Redknee RKN and Sphere 3-D ANY. I own RKN and am wondering if I should swap it for Sphere. But I can't assess how serious RKN's last earnings miss was. You have said that the story is not over, but you have also said RKN is now more risky. I don't know Sphere 3-D very well, but I have seen you suggest it to other members.

In your recent blog post "Five Small Cap Rules to Live By," your 5th recommendation is the following: Don't stick around too long if serious problems develop. Specifically, you add that a serious problem may be revealed in "declining sales trends or declining profit margins. A small, growing company, in our view, should never show declining sales." Does RKN fit into this category? Is Sphere a good switch with better risk-reward or should I wait one more quarter on RKN. Thank you again for fabulous service: I have made money--and more importantly learned a lot!

Q: As part of proper portfolio balance, my philosophy is to generally have income securities inside RRSP, blue chips in cash accounts, and the most speculative of the bunch in TFSA. In a recent question on TFSA where dividends were a criterion you suggested BDI where I might consider MCR instead.

Current TFSA is: CVL largest holding at 25%, equal weights: AYA, SYZ, WCP, WIN, WPK and at 5% MUX.

What 2 names could you suggest adding for the 2014 contribution, bearing in mind that dividends are less important than potential home run power, or should I beef up one of the existing weight stocks, and is my thinking fundamentally solid? Thanks, J.

Q: I have a portfolio of USD & CDN blue chip stocks and was thinking of buying 3 or 4 small to mid-cap names as a very tiny % of my overall portfolio: ENT, E, GPS & perhaps HNL or maybe LOY? Is there too much overlap between ENT & E ? Thoughts please.
Thank you James

Q: Hi Peter,
Ishares has 3 Russell 2000 ETF's, growth, value, and not focused. Is there growth and value in small cap? What are they doing here?
Thanks, Mark

Q: Happy New Year Peter & Team :
I am interested in the micro-cap company Input Capital Corp INP.V I read with interest your answer to Owen dated October 06, 2013 and wonder if you have any additional information.

They lend money to canola farmers in exchange for 6 year contracts giving Input the right to buy a certain percentage of the crop for an average price of $79.05 per ton which the farmer then delivers to the grain elevator who in turn pays Input the prevailing price for canola, currently about $450 per tonne.

The canola price has ranged from about $250/tonne to over $700/tonne over the last 10 years. I cannot determine whether Input engages in futures trading or not to hedge their expected profits, nor whether this could be a good practice or not.

This looks like an excellent business based on a proven business model and has enormous potential growth. Supposedly crop insurance protects Input in case of a crop disaster, and there is perennial global demand for the canola. They currently have 10 signed contracts worth $18.1 million, about $767,000 cash in hand, and no debt.

The issue I see is the cost of capital to Input, and whether there will be future share dilution. If Input can borrow at a reasonable rate [5-6%] it should go well but if Input are borrowing at 10% or higher it may not be economic. Can you find out the relevant facts on this company for me and give me your valued opinion.
Many thanks... Paul
