Q: This isn't a question, but a suggestion to those who are looking for much higher yield than treasury bills and government bonds with many of them trading at very low risk. The preferred side of split shares. There are several of them yielding anywhere from 4 to 6%. They are redeemable anywhere from one year to 6 years with a downside protection up to 100 % or more. Liquidity however is an issue with some of them. You just have to be selective.

Q: Hi 5i Team,
I read an article on Seeking Alpha today recommending a play on gold and silver via a closed-end fund called Central Fund of Canada (CEF). It is supposed to be trading at a 5% discount and that is meant to be unusual (but it happens from time to time).
Any time someone writes about "free" money I am suspicious. Do you have any comments about this investment alternative? The article is here: http://seekingalpha.com/article/2310905-how-to-get-a-big-discount-on-gold?ifp=0
Thanks again for your great service.

Q: Hi Peter and Ryan, could you please provide any insight into Manulife U.S. Regional Bank Trust. Fees etc, would it potentially be a good investment.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
Q: Interested in you investment opinion on BSO.UN. Thanks
Q: Aston Hill ADV T/U (AV.UN)has asked unit owners whether they are interested in tendering to a "voluntary redemption" at a price equal to the NAV minus redemption and brokerage charges.Should I tender to this offer, and if so what is a good replacement? Thank You
Q: Hi! What to do with FAP? They lowered there monthly dividend to 4 cents yesterday.
Q: What is wrong with Fay.un, First Asset Yield opportunity Trust? It has never missed or reduced it's dividend payment, even during the recession, but still trades near it's 5 year low. What am I missing? Thanks.
Q: Hi Peter,
Could you please provide comments on the "Advantaged Canadian High Yield Bond Fund - AHY.UN? In particular, do you believe it is better than other bond funds?

Q: In my RRIF I am holding the First Asset Convertible Debenture Fund (DCD.UN) which trades at a discount to NAV and yields about 7.4%. It seems to be structured on derivatives - a forward agreement with a bank - a setup that is different from that of CVD, though the past performance looks similar. CVD trades at a premium to NAV and has a lower yield but I wonder if it is safer overall and in your opinion would you recommend a switch? Thanks, J.
Q: Hi, I want to invest 5% of my portfolio in the precious metals sector. My current exposure is MND and HEP. To complement these, I am thinking of addind MMP.UN for diversification and income within the sector. I realize that it is invested in junior companies, therefore risky, but do you think this segment of the market has hope, and what do you think of this particular product? Thanks for your excellent service.
Q: I have held dividend select 15 (DS-T) for a number of years at has been lingering for a while and only recently is trading at the level I bought it at . It pays a good dividend
What are your thoughts on it.

Q: I recently received some money and I want to closely mimic your income portfolio in a taxable account.I was thinking of taking some of the weighting of the financials and buying FTN.I realize there is some added risk but it suits my investment style and I like the US exposure to banks. The dividend is also attractive I must admit. From your past comments you are not really excited about it.Also the bond portion of the portfolio are you still happy with the 7% weightings.
Q: BK and DFN both pays around 10% dividends. Are they safe to buy for income? Also is HFR a good place to park cash and does it fluctuate much with interest rates? Thank you very much for your opinion.
Q: Do you know why GII.UN would drop so dramatically today.
Thanks
John
Thanks
John
Q: Good Morning Peter :
I see FAP Aberdeen Asia-Pacific Inc is shown at TD Waterhouse with EPS of -$0.34 in one place and at +$0.81 in another place. Earnings always seemed sufficient to cover the $0.60 dividend. What EPS do you see? I am currently down 9.9% on this one and am sorry I bought it as I didn't really understand it properly. I would like to sell it but hate to take a loss.
Do the prospects look reasonable for it to get back to the $6.25 per share range [currently $5.65] or should I just move on. The 10% yield is very tempting but I believe now too risky.
I would appreciate your suggestions on what to replace it with for a long term holding, not necessarily in the same sector. I am looking at stable stocks yielding in the 5-6% range such as : BDT, ENF, WCP, COS, CHE.UN, CTY, BCE, and always appreciate your thoughts and any other suggestions
Thank You....... Paul

Q: Could I get you opinion on GGT.un (Goodman Gold Trust) it holds a wide variety of gold (mainly) stocks. They trade in and out of the stocks (must be doing it successfully as they recently paid a
17 % dividend). The stock trades well below it's NAV.
While I'm looking at Ned Goodman (Dundee) stocks why does DC.A trade at less than 1/2 NAV and is it a buy at this level.
Thanks
