The sector has been hit hard, with a strong US dollar, declining grades, inflationary pressures, environmental costs and so on. If interest rates fall, we would expect better times ahead for the sector as silver and gold are quite sensitive to rates. Also, a decline in rates might put some pressure on the US dollar, which would be good for the sector (as silver is priced in US dollars so international investors would benefit if the dollar declines).
