Q: Why are the renewable energy companies performing so poorly for so long (more than two years going by BEP.UN, BLX and INE, for example)? With all governments around the world all pushing for clean energy and yet these companies' SP performance are not reflected in the TSX? Thanks.

5i Research Answer:

The main reason for the lag from renewables is the result of the high/peaked interest rate environment. Cost pressures were significant for renewables companies due to the high rate environment we have experienced since COVID-19 which explains the lag. We would agree that government sentiment is high and the outlook/performance for these renewables companies will improve with cheaper financing.
