Q: How much overlap is there between VFV and VGRO. This is for a RESP and would you owned both or just one? If only one which one you prefer? Funds not needed for at least 10 years. I own IWO and VGG already.

Thanks

5i Research Answer:

VGRO owns 35% of a US total market index fund. This would be the only area of overlap with VFV, and considering the breakdown of the S&P 500 we would suggest about 20% total overlap. We would prefer VFV. VGRO does own bonds. Not that there is anything wrong with that but they will likely drag performance vs stocks over 10 years.
