- Northland Power Inc. (NPI)
- Brookfield Renewable Corporation Class A Exchangeable Subordinate Voting Shares (BEPC)
Q: These stocks seem to be in a serious downtrend, in the case of NPI more than cut in half. What's going on? Interest rates aside are investors just giving up on "going green"? Or are these unbelievable bargains like the Canadian banks in 08/09?
5i Research Answer:
We have some comments posted on NPI this morning. BEPC is largely caught up in the sector weakness, concern over rates and concern over growth. Investor sentiment does go in waves here. A few years ago, renewables were all the rage. They got overvalued. Now, they are not necessarily 'cheap' but should do better as rates ease. We are not quite at the level that banks were in the financial crisis (nowhere near, really), but we think longer term sector investors will still do fine here.
