Q: This is a question about buying stocks. For example...say there is 1 Seller at $1.00 and 50 Bids at $.99 as a stock is hitting a multi year low and I want to purchase now... I want to buy a full position but realize if I Bid $1.00 my order will only be partially filled and the stock may run away quickly. Therefore I was considering putting a buy-limit at $1.03. My question is ...would I get the $1.00, $1.01, $1.02 lots for those prices or would I pay $1.03 for every lot ? Do you have any other suggestions?

Q: I am currently underwater in my TFSA by 20 percent. My current holdings are CIX,FRC,FIT,MAG,VET. The biggest losses have come from FRC,MAG and VET. In a recent answer you suggested a TFSA for growth of AYA,QSR,KLS,CLL.B,AVO. I have a 10 year time frame until retirement.
My question is should I sell all or some of my holdings and repurchase your previous suggested portfolio. Or is there a better selection of stocks for my TFSA.

Q: Hello Peter- I have a lot of US dollars earmarked for the fixed income portion of my portfolio. I realize that 'safe' investments pay less than two percent (if that). I am trying to get 4-5%. I realize that I will have to take a little bit of risk to do this. My two choices are IShares Emerging Market Bonds EMB-N (this pays 4.4%)or the other option is to buy individual rate reset preferred shares. I believe that they work pretty well the same as the Canadian ones and they reset at Libor + 3 to 3.5%. BAC and C both issue these shares. I think that it is better to buy the resets as opposed to the perpetuals. Do you have any comments on this or any alternative suggestions?

Q: Good Afternoon 5i Team

I have a small position in NRG. Have noticed over the past month very little movement on the stock price and, for the past 8 days, it has stayed at $2.25 with very little volume.

Last you reported there is risk but potential. is there anything you can add to that today that might speak towards what you see moving forward and what reasons if any for the stagnant price and minimal trading?

Q: Peter,
I have a mixed bag of CDN and US stocks in my RRSP. I like Blackstone, especially for its dividend. However unlike many of my US holdings, the dividends are reduced by a withholding tax. Does this have something to do with being an LP?

Q: For those worrying about large capital gains, a stock donation to charity, if you are planning to donate to charity anyway, means you don't pay gains and your charity receives the full value of your stocks when they sell, plus you get a tax benefit. It's a win/win/win way to rebalance, it seems to me. (5i team, please say if there's something wrong with this theory)
