Q: Patrick Horan, on BNN last night, is shorting Cineplex - attendance is dropping and he believes people see movies in recessions, not in good times. I've been a holder of this stock since Jan of this year ($42) and am quite disappointed in its performance to date. (and its in my kids RESP!) Should I get out while my losses are relatively low?

Q: Good morning.
What's your assessment of the Cineplex (CGX) results?
My quick read is that results are good to very good, with an increasing dividend.
Time to buy? (I'm guessing that "waiting for a pullback" is a bit of a mug's game with this resilient stock.)
Thanks.

Q: Hi Team, does CGX look "interesting" at these levels. I took a small position already, time to add? Thanks.
Q: Peter and team,
I am thinking of selling mutual funds and putting the money into stock. I was considering telus,TD,alta gas dh and cgx. I would like some growth and guaranteed interest, Your input is valued.
Thanks,vi

Q: re: CGX
my question July 9 asked about the effects NetFlix/HBO types of products might be having on the box office. you mentioned that shouldn't be a concern but, you also mentioned "the box office this year is not as strong as expected..." and you didn't have any concerns on CGX right now in general.
Today CGX is down to it's lowest value since Sept 2013. I have to wonder if my money might not be better put to work in another company. I have this feeling if I sit on this long term I could very well continue to see a slow decline in value.
What are your thoughts after reading my comments?

Q: Cineplex CGX
Hello 5i Family
With recent comments regarding theater goer's #'s being down 20% compared to last summer - NetFlix plus other cable shows - we've seen a 4% hit for CGX since closing last week.
stock has been fairly stagnant for most of the year and is down 9% overall since the beginning of the year.
I have a 4% position. Would you consider this high? Should I take some cash out and redeploy it elsewhere? If so, where? And would you consider CGX a Buy, Hold or Sell right now considering these recent announcements?
Thanks for all you do for all of us

Q: Hi Peter,
Hope you're back riding soon...be well.
I am redeploying some of my AYA money into other core holdings. Would you prefer at today's level STN or CGX?
Also, should I be concerned by either STN or CGX's valuation in weaker market? - Their P/E's scare me if sentiment changes.
Thanks in advance,
J.

Q: Hi 5i Team,
If you had to categorize it, would you consider Cineplex (CGX) to be a value stock or a growth stock?
Thank you again for a great service!

Q: CGX
I hold Cineplex in my RRSP. I don't quite understand why the stock is down so much based on its recent quarterly report. Report doesn't look bad to me but perhaps I'm missing something. I like the yield on this stock and don't mind holding it for the long term but don't want to get caught in a long term yield trap. Should I be concerned with its lagtest quarterly report?

Q: I'm interested in your opinion about what is going on with CGX. I had purchased it at $42 in Jan, in my kids' RESP, thinking it was a solid stock, and now am having regrets.
Q: Please provide your expert opinion on CGX.Recently dropped fr $42.68 to $40.76 & dropped below both 50 & 100 day moving average & now sitting n the 200 day.Opened a cutting edge cinemas in Manning Town Centre,Edmonton on April 11--no report on status.Rumoured that Onex & CGX offered more than $1billion to purchase Dave & Buster,On BNN yesterday, Patrick Horan"SHORT" CGX as his 3rd pick stating that the stock was not acting well recently,it is deploying capital for something else & doubts about the up coming movie season. Txs a lot
Q: Re Cineplex (CGX): Based on Morningstar data, CGX has had an average 5 yr payout ratio of approx 114%. If this data is accurate, is the dividend payout being supported by free cash flow? Is this feasible in the long run?
Q: Would you still recommend buying CGX at its current price?
Q: I notice that the US theatre operators are seeing slower growth in ticket sales and are starting to discount same, albeit in only one state. "American movie-theater owners have been super hardcore about one thing, it’s ticket prices. No matter what the Europeans and Canadians do, no matter how many startups try to hack into ticket pricing, exhibitors for years have refused to budge.
Until now.
The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) announced Tuesday that it’s launching an off-night ticket-discount experiment sometime this year. But rather than dive in, they’re carefully dipping a toe: Only one state, which hasn't yet been revealed, will host the program, and it will run only for a limited time."
I know CGX has 70% market share but do you think it is fully valued here?

Q: Hi Peter,

Q: Thanks for the great service, I even bought a sub. for my son for Christmas.
I am looking to make 2 TFSA contributions. I would like something I don't have to worry too much about with a reasonable yield & some growth potential. 2-5 yr.+ time horizon.
TY

Q: CGX
It seems to me that Cineplex would be negatively impacted by a weaker Cdn $.....revenue in Cdn and the costs of securing content (presumably) in US......as a result, a hit to forecast Q1 results......am I on track with this thinking?

Q: Hello,
I started a small trading account for my kids (9 year old and 6 year old). I would like to purchase a few stocks that pay a dividend that they may have fun to follow. Any recommendations?
Thanks
