Q: The above group of companies, so called bond proxies medical supply and consumer staples do not seem to be participating in the Trump boost post election. Many have sold off sharply. Do you view this as a buying opportunity?

Have you ever considered a list of stocks to own, dare I say it, forever? Something so enduring that you can almost set it and forget it. My list would include Berkshire Hathaway, Phillip Morris, Coca Cola. It would discourage frequent trading, focusing on price targets, hand wringing over every quarterly, etc.

Q: Good day,

I know that your focus is not the US but the landscape is changing with the election so perhaps you could just be a sounding board. I have a large position in JNJ (for growing yield and broad diversification), a full position in EXE (for yield), and a 3% position in CRH (for growth). JNJ trades at a premium, justly so. I was thinking of swapping these holdings except maybe EXE for CVS, NVO and DHR. DHR is now focused since its spin off of Fortive and has been a long-term outperformer (it is devices and consumables). NVO (drugs) and CVS (broad healthcare) are great growth stocks that are beaten down compared to JNJ and together offer comparable yields. What would be your thoughts?

Q: May I have your thoughts on the talcum powder lawsuit? I am not so much afraid the company has known they are selling a carcigen or even that they have been unknowingly selling a carcigen. I am more concerned about the legal costs defending themselves from these lawsuits. The stock was up today inspite of loosing the case. I assume they will appeal.

Q: Hello Peter and Team, I,m wondering if it is time to take profits on my U.S. stocks as two of these are up over 100% and the others between 30 and 50%. Also the currency gain of almost 25% I receive over 2000.00 U.S. in dividends per year for an investment of around 80,000.00 U.S. This is in my cash account so I imagine I will pay a fair amount of cap. gains tax. We would like to increase our Healthcare sector alloc.
We purchased JNJ Aug2014 @ $100. We are currently up ~ 2%. It represents only 1% of Pfolio. Have read your reply to Satesh today re etfs XLV and PSCH, and we are considering selling our JNJ, and purchasing 2-3% position in XLV (it holds 10% in JNJ), and 1-1.5% position in PSCH.
What are your thoughts on this idea. Thanks

Q: I just turned 65. I have the following US stocks in my RRSP.
PG,JNJ,UTX,HIG,PVH,HON,GE,DXJ,T,YUM,IBM,USB,NOV,F,KEY,MS,NKE,AXP,ETN,VZ,GS,PFE,JPM,SBUX,COH. The total value of these stocks is $64000. Which one's would you recommend I keep and which one' should I get rid of. I do not plan to take the money out till I turn 71.

Q: I have about $50,000.00 US which I am looking to use to purchase 3-4 US stocks in a non-registered (taxable)account. I am happy to hold long term. Am thinking of purchasing either Disney or Time Warner and one or two others. Can you recommend a couple of additional US larger caps? We do have AIG/Halliburton/GE in our rrsp. but I think a substantial market correction is coming.
Should I sell these 2 stocks and buy back in on the dip with the likes of these 2 or MCD,DIS,CL,GE,DD,BNS,for example?
I know it goes against the premise of "Keep the good and sell the bad but those profits are very tempting. By the way, I also hold FSZ and CGX, 2 of your recommendations, but I see those as growth stories that will keep climbing - keep up the good work.

First, a comment. I've complimented you on the service you offer, so no need to go back there. But I would like to add that this Q and A forum has become a necessity for me: first place I look EVERY DAY, and I'm constantly surprised by the things I learn reading questions from my peers (and of course your answers). Also get some very good portfolio ideas, so that is a thank you to all that write in.
Second: Peter, can I have your single best idea for the Health Care Sector (I currently have no exposure to this sector); stability is more important than growth (70/30) and a dividend is essential. Thanks, I'll look forward to this.
