Q: Hello:
Can you recommend articles or books that will guide a pre-retiree about asset allocation strategies based on ETFs? (NOT a request for general reading) If 60/40 is dead, then one is bit lost! What next? I know that repeatedly you have said that you don't want to give % of weighting of stocks or ETFs as you feel it is bit personal. Hence my request to guide me to read and learn about asset allocation strategies. Please consider current political/economic/pandemic environment.

Q: Just wondering if you can comment on the authenticity of the information that is reported on the Financial Statements, most i have looked at on Morningstar, state they are unaudited, which to me means that it can only be taken with a grain of salt, considering corporate fraud is rampant.
Harry Markopolos, has the view that General Electrics accounting is fraudulent, and is warning shareholders about it, he was the whistle blower in the Bernie Madoff case years ago, which i'm sure everyone knows about.
Thanks!

Q: Your weekly stock market update last Friday reports that S&P 500 and Tsx were both down 1.30% during the week. According to the Globe and Mail the S&P was down.30% and the Tsx fell .82%.
Can you explain the difference?

Q: Dorothy asks:
“Do you know of a site that I can list all my stocks, the cost price, and number of shares and get the following information: gain or loss, with the percentage and the dollar amounts.“
I have used the Yahoo Finance portfolio tool for decades. It’s free and easy to use.
I also use the Globe and Mail portfolio tool, which requires a subscription to the digital newspaper but offers real time quotes and quite good portfolio analytics.

Q: Do you know of a site that I can list all my stocks, the cost price, and number of shares and get the following information: gain or loss, with the percentage and the dollar amounts. I would like it to be in real time. I have used the TXS Money but as I have used it in the past it is not very consistent and I have had troubles with it. Hopefully you can suggest a different site. Thanks very much Dorothy
Q: Just a general question re a company's market cap. When a company's stock rises dramatically and the shares are bought and sold in the secondary market, how does a company become more valuable and richer even though they don't receive any of the proceeds, since i would think it wouldn't affect the bottom line, thanks??
Q: Will you be issuing a tax loss selling report this year? Can you suggest a list of Canadian companies to keep an eye on, that you would consider good long term buys and might be subject to tax loss dips later in the year, thanks.
Q: Would you expect an incredible run on the general markets when a successful vaccine comes out including oil prices getting a good bump or just a slow gradual momentum until things get back to normal.
Q: is it possible to find out the ratio of buyers to sellers at anytime in the market as a broad based market or within certain sectors?
Q: If you wish to hold a large portion of your wealth in cash or cash like investments what are the safest investments to own. I’m talking safe from the perspective of a significant economic downturn in the economy with severe risks to our financial system?
Q: Hello 5i Team
I have reviewed previous answers regarding tax loss selling, however I cannot find a clear answer to this question.
I sold a stock on September 18, 2020 with the settlement date of September 22.
The thirty-day period from the trade date (September 18) is October 18.
The thirty-day period from the settlement date (September 22) is October 22.
What is the correct day I can re-purchase the stock and claim the capital loss:
1 - October 20 (settlement date October 22)?
2 - October 21 (settlement date October 23)?
Thanks

Q: I’ve been seeing a lot of these SPAC investments lately, Or Special Purpose Acquisition Companies or a pre IPO deal offered from the likes of Whitney Tilson, Abeyta Enrique and Bill Ackerman.
They sound too good to be true and wonder if they are only for American citizens and what 5i thinks of these investments.
Thanks

Q: Government uses previous year total income to determine if one is qualified for GIS (guaranteed incoming supplement). I would like to know if the GIS received from previous year is also included in the "total income" calculation? The Government of Canada site does not seem to be very clear. Thanks.
Q: I have been getting calls from a company with the name Flameback Capital, they offer free research and suggestion. They are usually on the aggressive side promoting IPO'S. Do you know of this company? Is it one of those that try to scam investors?
Thanks
Thanks
Q: Hi, as many canadians I suppose, I am really overweight $CDA in my investments. I try to buy canadian cmies with lots of international exposure to mitigate this risk. Can you please provide your comments on the validity of this argument. For the average canadian investor who plans to stay in Canada, what % of your portfolio would you allocate to US / international stocks? (General rule of thumb). Thank you.
Q: Hello 5I team,
I hear unless you investments in your TSFA are all Canadian, you would be subject to CRA tax.
Is this true?
What about ENB, a Canadian Co but with lots of USA income?
....Thanks ....JC
