Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I have only owned GIB for a few months and am not unhappy with it. However, you keep speaking glowingly of SYZ (and it pays a dividend, which is always nice) Would you consider it overlap to own both companies and if so, would you sell GIB to buy SYZ? I am generally a patient investor with a long time frame.

Thanks for your great service!

Q: As an investor who is attempting to build a long term portfolio with an emphasis on growth + secondary consideration for future dividend yield, who do you favor between STN vs ESL? STN's more costly shares are a drawback but how real is the risk of ESL CEO Mr. Sadler moving on to other ventures given recent ESL success?

Much thanks for great insight..

Q: What is your opinion on TASR: Nasdaq?
When a stock like AVO spikes as it has currently is it wise to trim some from my position and let it cool down?
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter,
I'm looking to redeploy some of my PLB funds into MDA. (Thanks BTW) According to your answers on various questions, you seem very positive on this company for a long term hold. At first glance, I agree, however my question is about the SSL part of the business. It seems to my amateur eyes that besides adding a ton of revenue, not much has been able to fall to the bottom line as of yet.

Is this a case of costs being accounted for before synergies are realized? I just want to double check in terms of true value being present for at least a three year hold.

Thank you Peter for providing this awesome service!

Q: Hi

I really like AVO and AYA. They just seem to offer exceptional growth potential. Just reviewed the recent news from Amaya. To me it could be worth more than gold.
Do you have 1 or 2 other candidates that stand out in particular sectors, along the lines of the above companies?
Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Q: Please comment on my attempt to trim. 100 shares of CSU was purchased at $116. Present value is $196. It is now 9.8% of my portfolio which is about $200,000. If I sell 30 shares at $196 that would reduce the holding to 6.9% of my portfolio. Is this worth the effort?
I also own 600 shares of ESL @ $27.76. This is 8.3% of my portfolio. If I sell 100 shares that would reduce this holding to 5.4%. Alan W.

Q: Hi Peter, new to your service and really finding it informative. I've been looking for an opportunity to buy Points International (PTS) all summer, their quarter looked solid to me, is this sell off a good chance as a long-term entry point?

Q: Good Morning Peter and Team,
My question is about Avigilon (AVO- TSX). At first I could not understand why it was rated B+. It seemed so extremely expensive. Now I fully understand. I have learned from 5i Research that the great growth companies almost never get cheap. From your vast experience how do you think the AVO story will play out over the next 3-5 years ??? Thank you. DL

Q: "Watch financings. Stay away from most companies that issue stock at lower levels than the last financing. This is horrible for shareholder value." From your answer this AM would this apply to AVO "have agreed to purchase, on a bought deal basis pursuant to the filing of a short form prospectus, an aggregate of 2,489,800 Common Shares at a price of $24.10 per Common Share (the "Offering Price") for aggregate gross proceeds to Avigilon of $60,004,180."

Thank You
