Q: I am a 75 year old pensioner and hold these stocks in my Rrif at a significant loss:Csu -20%,Clbt -17% and Crwd -20%.Is there any point in holding on to these considering my age and probably not a long term view(say 2-3 years)? What is the likeliehood that they will each be 10% above my purchase price in that time?

5i Research Answer:

To get a 10% gain over and above a loss of 20%, a stock needs to rise 37.5%. Any of these noted stocks could do that in a 2 to 3 year period, under the right conditions. But, of course, they can also decline and there are no guarantees. We would take a look at one's risk profile. Much will also depend on what else is owned. In a balanced portfolio, we would be fine keeping these for growth potential. But we would feel better with a 5-year timeframe.
