5i Research Answer:

It really depends on which bank/brokerage is used. CDR hedge fees are approximately 0.40%. Many brokers f/x fees are approaching 1%, but some will be lower. If an investor is trading, the in/out f/x costs of a US$-C$-US$ trade  will likely be higher than a CDR buy/sell.
