Essentially, they were 'hated' last year, with the TD money laundering scandal and other issues. There were lots of fears of recession and tariff-induced inflation. Then, this year, credit provisions were MUCH lower than expected, and that, combined with lower interest rates in Canada, set off a bit of a buying frenzy. In addition, many banks kept increasing their dividends nicely.
