Q: With rich valuations in the market and inflation poised to move higher on tariff deals, what would be your asset mix to preserve capital while seeking a modest total return of around 4%?

5i Research Answer:

If a 4% return is the goal, we think in most cases a conservative oriented portfolio should be able to meet those needs. This would look something like a 60/40 fixed income/equity type of setup in general terms, with potential to tilt it even a bit more conservatively to achieve that return. With rates where they are, much of the 4% could be achieved through fixed income/distributions with the equity exposure adding a bit of additional return potential above the 4% range.
