Q: Hi 5i, Trying to move into more ETFs in our RIF & LIF accounts from individual stocks for income and preservation of capital. Please rate these ETFs for a long term hold. Any additional suggestion would be appreciated. TIA

5i Research Answer:

XYLD is a global covered call fund for enhanced income. It is well-diversified and we would be comfortable with it for an investor seeking enhanced income.

QQQI; this, and SPYI are income focused funds on the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500, respectively. We think they are solid for income investors, with some tax advantages (not applicable in registered accounts). We would be very comfortable with either.

Note these all have 100% equity exposure, so presevation of capital may not happen every year. We might suggest a balanced fund such as VBAL to get some fixed income exposure and lower risks.
