BMO High Yield US Corporate Bond Hedged to CAD Index ETF (ZHY $11.19)

iShares U.S. High Yield Bond Index ETF (CAD-Hedged) (XHY $16.65)
Q: I have been trying to find a high yield bond fund for the last year, and was looking at zhy and xhy, and was shocked when I saw their 10 yr charts.
Can you explain why the dramatic share price decline from about June 2014, until about Sept. 2022.
Thanks

5i Research Answer:
Both of these funds are hedged to the Canadian dollar. What that means is, even though they own US securities, if the US dollar is strong they do not get the currency benefit on their holdings. During the period in question, the Canadian dollar fell 20.2% agains the US dollar, and thus these funds, priced and hedged in C$, suffered.
