- Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP Limited Partnership Units (BIP)
- Brookfield Infrastructure Corporation (BIPC)
Q: On the NYSE, Brookfield Infrastructure is listed in these 2 ways. Would you kindly explain the difference in relation to dividends and Canadian income taxes.
Thanks.
Thanks.
5i Research Answer:
BIP is a Bermuda based limited partnership, but it does have some US exposure. Its US income can be subject to withholding taxes for Canadians, but the amount of exposure is not huge. Here is a breakdown. BIPC is a 'paired' company that is economically equivalent, but is set up as a Canadian corporation. Thus, there are no withholding taxes and BIPC dividends get the Canadian dividend tax credit. These tax differences result in a higher valuation for BIPC vs BIP.
