Q: I have stayed away from bonds but recently I think it's time to allocate some funds to bonds. I have holdings in VANGUARD ALL-EQ ETF PTFL (VEQT) and VANGUARD GL VAL FACTR ETF (VVL) and would like to divert these funds into all-in-one ETF funds with 60-40 equity-bond funds. What do you suggest?

5i Research Answer:

For an ETF that uses the 60/40 equity-bond approach, we like the Vanguard Balanced ETF (VBAL). It has an MER of 0.24%, an AUM of $2.4B, and a 12-month yield of 2.2%. The ETF has ~60% exposure to equities and 40% to bonds. It has 13,650 underlying stock holdings and 18,423 bond holdings with an average duration of 7.2 years. The ETF is well-balanced across geographies, sectors, and credit ratings.
