Q: Hi There
I wonder if you can briefly explain the structure of this group of companies, which includes MGU-N, MQU.un-T and MQI.un-T, with a view to potentially choosing one for rising income. It seems shades of Brookfield (Brascan) - never really sure where the meat is.

Q: Since your mention of Cambrex CBM.US on March 20, 2015, it's gone up 20%, so thanks for that. I see Cambrex is presenting at the Annual Needham Healthcare Conference tomorrow (as of this writing), April 14.

"Needham & Company, LLC is a nationally recognized investment banking and asset management firm focused solely on growth companies and their investors," according to http://www.needhamco.com/Default/AboutUs/Overview.aspx.

What is your experience with the effects of this kind of event? Seems like it would boost investment, but should us retail investors jump on board too and go for the ride? Thank you.

Q: Do you agree that Aquila's latest granting of options exercisable at .19 over the next five years is a positive development? They appear to be raising money to do more development work. Clearly there will be dilution and will be highly negative to the stock price if the development results are not encouraging. On a more positive note officers of the company will be putting some money into the company which is always a good sign. If the stock trades above 19 cents some insiders may exercise and sell which should provide more float. The company's officers appear to be legit not just promoters - however some promotion will be needed to raise development money. I also like the fact that the purchase of the options are stretched out over 5 years. Still a high risk stock of course.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Q: have freed up some cash, around $100,000.00, and have inherited a portfolio worth a little over $100,000.00 but the timing stinks as a lot of it was in junior oils or oily stocks, was looking at model portfolios for the first money, i know you mentioned timing is not necessarily the issue but is now in your opinion right, so many opinions are on stay in cash right now
also, any ideas what i should do with that dog of an oil portfolio i got, i am about to gain control of it and it is fairly under water, any ideas going forward with that money?

Q: HI Folks: I assume the Growth Portfolio is based on "earnings growth". I can find info on "profit growth" and "Return on Equity", but nothing on Earnings Growth. Is there a source for this information or a calculation available to determine it?

I own 500 shares of GM in my RRSP, partly to gain some foreign exposure and partly because the dividends aren't subject to U.S. withholding tax within an RRSP. Given the federal government's recent announcement to unload its shares onto the market in order to help it balance the budget, is it a good time to buy more?

Q: I own some FF 71/2% Aug 2019 bonds bought back after the financial crisis. I have a nice capital gain but I notice that since they are now 4yr bonds the bond price is slowly eroding. Should I sell them, I'm all about taking profits.

Q: Dear Peter:
BTSX in Canadian Money Saver by David Stanley and now by Ross Grant is one of my favourite series. Mr. David Stanley usually picks May 24 as the entry point. With the recent run up and potential bounce back in the energy/resources sector, is there a merit in structuring one's portfolio now instead of waiting till May the 24th? If I am going to wait for another 5 weeks or so, where do you think I should park the cash?
(I am in my 60s and hence my fascination with BTSX approach).

Q: I own shares of BRF.PR.A. On April 30th, 2015 holders of these preferred shares will have the option to convert to floating shares or retain them as BRF.PR.A. The floating shares will start trading on May 1, 2015 under the symbol BRF.PR.B

My question is: Should I convert to floating shares or not?
A leading expert on preferred shares advised today the holders of BRF.PR.A should not convert. I am looking for a second opinion.

Q: Hey Peter & team,

In my capacity as a UIC at our locale baseball assoc I had the occasion while watching a couple of young umpires, to chat with a dad who... is in a fairly prominent position with EA. He mentioned they have just enjoyed a record best quarter and that their next report (end of April) should be very positive.

Jan 2014 you discussed EA painting a fairly positive picture while admitting you do not follow EA closely enough to be able to discuss their strategy at length. You did say they generate excellent cash flow (which my new friend mentioned as well) and that they have quite a bit of cash on hand.

Stock is up 46% in the past year. Can you tell me what your thoughts on it now, if you feel it is expensive, and if you would recommend it as a buy.
