Q: Hello everyone,
For a long-term hold (say 5 year +) in a TFSA account which one would you choose: HWO or BDI. As always, thank you for helping us all to make more informed decisions.
Q: True North has just announced a major acquistion of $286 million purchased from company insiders It has a cap rate of 5.4 %
Could you please explain what a cap rate is

As a relatively new suscriber I have found the site very useful and a fresh perspective.
My question is a round real return bond funds. I have held the TD RR bond fund for several years. Last years talk of tapering and interest rate bump pulled them back pulled them back about 10%. YTD on the same fund is up 8.4% with little inflation although the ten year bond has come down since last year.
Can you explain the correlation here as I have always understood these RR's do well in more inflationary times.
Q: Hello 5i,
I have been keeping an eye on Brookfield Renewable Energy (BEP.Un) and thought it might be a good time to buy with a small drop today. You seem to like this better than, say Emera, and I was wondering whether you thought it would be worth selling Emera to buy BEP.UN? I notice that Brookfield seems to have much more growth and I imagine that is one of the big reasons you like it. It has a much higher P/E than Emera, though. I bought Emera for the stability and income. Do you think that Brookfield is as stable and secure as Emera and you would thus get the growth as a bonus?
thanks
Q: Financial post headline today “The Canadian unit of France’s Total SA is putting its $11-billion Joslyn oil sands mine on hold indefinitely, saying high costs do not support investing in the project.”
Is this a significant trend and are there specific companies that may be at risk due this this. I am specifically wondering about BDI , HNL, E, Ent, and MCB and any others that you may be aware of.
Thanks
John
Q: Greetings, fellas. True North Apartment REIT (tn.un) announced a deal today where it looks like the reit's management is selling the properties to true north from Starlight. On first glance, it looks like management is simply paying themselves for properties they will still partially own.
With the $9 exercise price, as part of the deal going to management and with Daniel Drimmer owning 41% of tn.un do you think with this deal it is more likely or less likely that Mr. Drimmer will put together a bid to eventually take tn.un private, in the future.
Q: I notice BEP.UN is raising approximately $325 million this morning at $31.70 per share. Do you know what the money is needed for and would you recommend purchasing at the new issue offerring.
Q: Hi Peter and Team, would you please compare between Bonterra, BNE, Surge, SGY and Crescent Point, CPG, in terms of which one you prefer for better share price and dividend growth (1st/2nd/3rd)? All three management teams seem strong here. Based on what you have written so far I would assume SGY, but could be wrong, and thus the question to confirm. Thanks!
Q: Prairie Sky Royalty came out it instantly gapped up 32% yesterday ( unfortunately they only gave me 400 shares of my 1000 share order . Would taking a profit and waiting to buy it later an unwise decision ? /// or should I put this one away and collect royalties forever ?
Q: Peter. You have Brookfield renewable ranked very high on you ratings and I have followed your advice on that. I am looking for guidance on Brookfield Infrastucture. Would you rate it as high? Would you buy it before Emera, Telus or Fortis? Looking for long term safety with moderate growing dividends. Thank you , Ken
Q: Previously, I owned MBC (MBAC Fertilizer) but bailed when the potash industry collapsed. The stock is now at a 52 week low. The company recently gave an update and their Q1 2014 results. I certainly know the stock can still decline but I would like your opinion on where the potash industry is today and where MBC fits into that scenario.
