Q: Peter and Team: I have no materials stocks so I've been comparing the ETF's XMA.T and XLB.US. The latter has been going up since 2009 while XMA recovered from 08/09, peaked in 2010/2011 and tanked thereafter. I assume that is due to the heavy weighting of gold, silver and other mining stocks in XMA, which in XLB is replaced (in part) by various chemical production and chem engineering stocks. A recovery in XLA therefore depends very much on gold and other mining, while XLB is growing nicely. Thus I'm thinking XLB over XMA. I'd appreciate your opinion.

Q: What would you recommend in the energy infrastruture as far as etf or mutual fund plays ?
Q: I have a question re ETF's of U.S. stocks hedged to the C$. If the U.S.dollar appreciates significantly in relation to the C$ would the hedged ETF increase because of that with all other things being equal? Thank you.
Q: Hi, In my US acct I already own some KKR and some Qualcom. I want some more tech, so thinking of buying the ZQQ or XLK spider. Which would you prefer OR just add more Qcom? Thanks. Helen
Q: Hi Peter and Team: Do you think it is an appropriate time to buy a materials ETF, or should I wait?
On the subject of the number of questions: I think each question should pose essentially one focussed issue for your analysis. To ask for details on more than one stock is being greedy, but asking for a comparison of two similar stocks would be OK (in my opinion). Infrequent questioners who have multiple queries should pose multiple but separate questions.

Q: If I hold an ETF on U.S. stocks that's hedged to the C$,e.g.ZUB ,in a non-registered account in your opinion would the dividends be subject to U.S.withholding tax? Thank you.
Q: What do you think of IBB, the US biotech ETF and if the assessment is positive what would be a good entry price? Thx
Q: Did CYH issue a large one time dividend today? I'm looking at this on google finance and it shows a $3.93/share dividend, but I can't find any information anywhere. I assume its a google mistake?
Q: Is buying the DLR etf, calling your broker once it settles to convert it to DLR.U, and then selling the DLR.U in your US account the most economical way you know of for an average person to convert Canadian to US dollars? (Not for investment purposes, but if you need US$ for other reasons).
Q: I have been watching the base metals very closely lately, particularly XBM and ZMT, and think they could be ready for at least a short term gain. They have been down so long that, if I am right, there could be substantial upside. Would you agree?
Q: Peter and team: would you agree with the investing hypothesis that Obamacare is forcing Americans to own health insurance, which will effectively increase the healthcare market by 15% (a current estimate of uninsureds) simply through increased participation. Therefore, companies in the healthcare sector should see a similar lift and investors could benefit in the medium to long term versus other sectors? If you agree with the hypothesis, is there an ETF (or stock) you would recommend? I'm thinking of this for an RESP with a long time horizon.
Q: What is your opinion on I shares S&P /TSX Capped Composite Index Fund .....Is there an alternative that you would recommend
Q: I would like to have some exposure to a European recovery .....Is a recovery in the offing and if so can you recommend a way (ETF?) to play it?
Q: Hi Peter and gang, what is your opinion of investing in european banks at the present time. Do you like San , or would you recommend an ETF of European banks. Thanks Darryl

Q: Would HGD be a good stock to consider these days as the price of gold appears to be deteriorating again? THANKS!
Q: Would you consider providing a model portfolio consisting solely of ETFs? Your current stock model portfolio is helpful but I think that an ETF portfolio would be valuable to your members.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Q: I have 25k to invest in the financial sector, I prefer Canadian banks outside of my registered accounts. Are the Canadian banks fully priced after the recent run. Do you see further upside in the Canadian Banks in the next 12 months and if so which 2 banks have the most to gain going forward. Which 2 banks will increase their dividends in the next 12 months. Instead of investing equally in two Canadian banks would I be better off to invest in ZWB or ZEB which hold all the major banks. Thanks for your highly valued opinion.
