Q: Hi
My question from a few days ago was about your opinion or recommendation for safest investment for TFSA with 5 to 10 years horizon. BMO, BNS or other banks, utilities or insurance etc. What's your opinion on these types of stocks? Thanks.

It still will depend on timeframe. If one wants to have equity exposure, we would consider utilities as the safest sector (FTS, BEPC) or companies such as ENB (technically in the energy sector). Banks should be OK unless we see a recession and large loan losses. But we would see a 5 to 10 year period as most acceptable for such investments (the prior question did not specify time, just 'shorter periods'). Consumer staples is also a sector that is 'safer' most of the time. Companies such as L, MRU.
