Q: MoneySense recommended HXT as one of the best Canadian ETFs for years, but not in 2023. Is there any concerns that the government may crack down on Horizon's Total return funds that do not pay out any dividends?

5i Research Answer:

While government regulations can always change, perhaps moreso if there is a change in governments, we would see little cause for worry here. Regulations changed a couple of years back, and Horizons worked with the government to set up a new structure, which is what is in place now. We would not expect any changes. Worst case scenario total return funds would just revert to 'regular' funds.
