Q: As my wife and I 'leap' over the 90 year-yard line, we ponder what to invest in for our heirs in the coming year - - specifically using our 'new' TFSA contribution room. Historically, we have preferred to use Perpetual Preferred shares - - specifically WN.PR.A and POW.PR.A for their yield, their track record as companies, their distributions which are dividends and taxed as such, and they offer DRIP (at least in our discount house). I am looking for suggestions of other high quality firms that might be considered. Use as many credits as required to answer please. Thank you for all your help over the past several years. Happy New Year! Bill

Brookfield Renewable Power Preferred Equity Inc. Class A Preference Shares Series 5 (BRF.PR.E $21.52)
-
Power Corporation of Canada 5.60% Non-Cumulative First Preferred Shares Series A (POW.PR.A $25.23)

Q: Thinking of including at least two of these in the fixed income portion of our portfolio. Do any carry any 'yellow' flags? All seem to DRIP, at least througfh my broker. Could one just weigh them based on current yield? Appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks, Bill

Q: In anticipation of continuing 'interesting' times, I am considering moving some WN.PR.A over to my TFSA. Since I am in my late eighties I consider this more of a fixed incme investment and less a consumer staple. Given the number of years the issue has exited, I am uncertain as to current redemption. I would appreciate relevant tho'ts. Thanks for all ideas that the team has provided over he past decade+. Bill

Q: I have been seeing a gradual price loss with some of the example preferred stocks I hold shown above.
With the continuing disaster going on in Ukraine and its inflationary impact, should I expect this to further reduce valuations for these types of investments as interest rates rise?

Q: just a follow up to your answer to cory. These preferreds have come off their premium lately. Wondering if there is an announcement of redemption that i have have missed. they have been out there for a long time!
Q: How long has the issue been trading?
Q: If George Weston gets privatized what happens with this issue?
Q: Have held NWC for a few years as one my major consumer staple holdings. Am now wanting to deploy more resources to this sector and want an opinion on this (WN.PR.A) perpetual preferred issue - similar type of sector and I would think limited volatility (March notwithstanding). With very low interest rates, is there a major concern of redemption? Thanks for your help and support, Bill
