Q: This stock has grown steadily for me and is my only exposure to life sciences. I like it, it seems well managed with a huge history of successful acquisitions and the probable Pall merger looks quite good, though large to digest, expensive and increasing debt quite a lot. But DHR has suddenly turned complex. Should I exchange some DHR for NetScout? Should I continue to hold both the life science and industrial companies post split? Or should I take my profit and look to get back into some part of ex-DHR/Pall later, when there's better visibility on how all this played out?
Q: What are your thoughts on Pilgrim's Pride? The valuation is decent, the divvy is tempting, but I am having some difficulty wrapping my head around the cyclicality issues as well as the risk factors especially avian flu. Your thoughts are appreciated.
Q: In a conservative mood a few years ago, and with a high Canadian dollar, we loaded up on consumer staples stocks. Now, we are thinking of lightening up and putting the money into another sector. We are having difficulty deciding which one to hold and which ones to sell, amongst Conagra, Campbell's Soup and General Mills. We have good profits in them all and they are in our RRSP. Can you give us an idea of how one would approach this and what criteria would be important and ultimately, which ones to hold and which to sell?
thanks
Q: Hello Team,
! follow your stock commentaries with great interest!
As to above technology companies which would be your preferred choice?
I hold a small position in ESRX. Would you recommend alternatives?
Q: Bought this for my RSP 5 years for income (12% yield) and am 10% down even after currency adjustment. Small part of portfolio (2%) NAV is 10 % higher than share price. I figure that if I am underwater with interest rates and US $ the way they are now, then maybe I should sell. Your thoughts please and thanks. DEREK
Q: Hi . Wondering if you could tell me which of the health insurance cos could merge. I have Aetna.
Any insight on health care companies which might do the same, or pharma companies?
Many thanks for your service.
Q: Could you please give your impressions of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. AJG.US. This well established insurance brokerage (since 1927) touches many industries in scores of countries and is trying to break out of a 20 month trading range. Thank you for any insights.
Q: Hi Mr. Hodson, 5i.
In your answer to question by Claire May 21, did you say "If you have 10% or less of your portfolio in USD, we think owning it in US dollars is fine (assuming it doesn't bring USD exposure above 10%)." I am a little confused.
Are you saying one's total US $ exposure should be 10% only? Or, am I mis-reading you? Please clarify. Thanks for the service. sarah
Q: I am building an income portfolio to live fully off the dividends and therefore am mainly interested in yield in quality companies and not capital gains. What are your thoughts on investing 10% each into ETO.US (Y8.72%) and EOI.US(Y7.52%) to make up up 20% USD of my income portfolio?
I need your advice on the oil and gas stocks in my portfolio. Presently I own Chevron (CVX.US) and Crescent Point (CPG) (4% and 3% of my total portfolio, respectively). I need to sell my Chevron position to pay for upcoming USD expenditures. I was thinking about replacing Chevron with a Canadian company or companies in the energy sector but am struggling with a replacement. What do you suggest? Also, should I increase my exposure to the energy sector at this time? For your information, I have a well-diversified portfolio of 20 individual stocks with about 70% in ‘blue-chip’ companies. Thanks for your help, I have really appreciated your past suggestions.
Q: 5i
Is it still a favourable time to invest in U.S. Stocks . I currently don't have any U.S. Stocks but have been quite pleased with the majority of my Canadian stocks . I'm wondering though that maybe it's time to branch out south of the border . Is it a concern when purchasing U.S. stocks that the Canadian dollar has dropped so much thus making U.S. stocks more expensive to buy or does it all balance out in the end when the stocks are sold and converted back to Canadian dollars ?
That being said what are your thoughts on Wab , sna , and fisv . Buy , hold or sell ?
Thanks
Bill
