Q: Greetings:
The question from Irwin on Jan 9 induced me to do considerable research. On the surface it appeared that if gas prices cooperated, combined with being the largest explorer on the island of Trinidad, they could do well. Then I found that they are serial issuers of shares, and with the consequent dilution, little gain to be had. Sounds like the old Crescent Point. Past year dilution 37.3%, and more to come. If gas remains soft these shares will be 12 cents by March 31, 2026. Your assessment please.

Thanks,
Ben.

5i Research Answer:

TXP is a micro-cap company that produces petroleum and natural gas, with properties located in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The company has issued shares over the years and implemented a large acquisition, which put the company in a tough financial position due to weak commodity prices and an unsustainably high leverage level. Though a sustained improvement in natural gas prices could help the company improve its operating results, we think TXP is simply too risky for investors given the illiquidity and high leverage levels. We believe investors are better off looking for opportunities elsewhere.
