Q: JEPI can be bought in either USD or CAD. If I buy it in CAD is the dividend paid in Canadian dollars and therefore no 15% holdback if held in a non registered account?

Would the same apply to JEPQ?

Thanks

5i Research Answer:

It is not the currency that dictates the tax treatment, nor where it trades. It is the domicile of the fund and what it owns. 80% of JEPI's holdings are US stocks, and thus withholding tax on dividends applies on this portion. The balance of the fund is from several countries each of which will also have (varying) tax withheld. JEPQ is similar. The Canadian listed ETFs as well.
