Q: I have read your previous responses to this company question and understand recommending for or against will not be answered. I am wanting to know more about the holdings and the make up of this company/fund. Is there an MER? Is the holdings just uranium or am I right that they are moving in rare earths? A general overview of what they do with not recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks

5i Research Answer:

SII is a Canadian corporation (not a fund or ETF) and there is no MER. There are of course corporate expenses. It is an asset manager, with a focus on gold and commodities, largely via ETFs and Trusts. It manages very large physical gold funds, as well as gold stock funds. Also copper, platinum, energy, uranium, silver and so on. It does have a rare earth (critical metals) ETF under symbol SETM. These individual ETFs do have MERs. Assets under management are $35B. The company went public at $100 in 2008 and shares have only recently re-approached that level.
