Q: A Market Call guest stated Brookfield's annualized return was 18% over 30 years leading me to wonder if there was a way to calculate such a number by including the number of spinoffs which have been many. Can you confirm or deny the 18% claim?

5i Research Answer:

Because of splits/dividends and restructurings, it is difficult to confirm this with any degree of confidence. However, most sites do show a high rate of total compounded return. We have seen even higher than 18% over 20 years. Certainly if one goes back to its origins as Hees/Edper/Pagurian then returns to investors have been exceptional.
