Five from 5i – Low volatility underperformance?

5i Staff May 06, 2016

Earnings season is in full gear right now with many companies reporting. A 5i Research coverage company, Trimac Transportation is being taken private at what what is a bit of a bittersweet deal to investors in our view (at a premium but still cheap given past levels). Other earnings of note are A&W which continues to post impressive same store sales growth (along with a dividend increase) and Cineplex which continues to show an ability to improve patron revenues and increase the dividend. Recent jobs data out of Canada was not great with the help of Alberta job losses but unemployment stayed steady at 7.1%. Below are some stories we thought were worth a read this week:

  1. What low volatility fund performance might look like in a rising rate environment.
  2. Is the robo-advisor movement already fizzling out?
  3. A look at whether negative rates actually spur growth.
  4. An overview of the Sohn Investment conference here, here and here (3 parts).
  5. Zeroing in on the investment factors that actually work.

Finally, don't forget to tune into BNN Market Call tonight, at 6PM to see Peter Hodson talk stocks.
